IP02 · SOURCE STANDARD

Source-backed interpretation.

Editorial interpretation is derived from the original DMAasia/WION video description and transcript. Statements by speakers remain attributed to the source; no unverified current-role or performance claim has been added.

IP03 · THE BIG IDEA
The durable question is how personalisation should improve attention without losing sight of leadership.

Source signal, edited only for readability.

IP04 · FOR MARKETERS

Three takeaways worth carrying forward.

  1. 01

Read personalisation as the primary operating question in this record.

  2. 02

Test its connection to leadership and relevance against the speaker’s reasoning in the transcript.

  3. 03

Keep the 2021 source context visible before carrying the lesson into a current decision.

IP05 · SOURCE SIGNALS

What the transcript puts on the table.

Actually ahead of the curve, where it's a very great experience to either even listen to what people are saying, because there's something to learn every time.
In case if one is speaking, then there's a lot of preparation that goes in, because of the nature of the topics that you bring in, which makes it a great occasion or a great way to actually spend one time, a once time product.
I can go on and on, but I think it suffices to say that every time I have participated with DMA, it's taught me something new.
IP06 · HOW MARKETING HAS CHANGED

Original context. Current reading.

Recorded in 2021, this captures the language, platforms and constraints of its time. Read it now by separating those period-specific details from the enduring operating question: how should attention and relevance improve the decision?

IP07 · TIMELESS RULES

Durable tests for the work.

  1. Earn attention with relevance before scaling reach.
  2. Start from the customer’s situation, not the channel.
IP08 · THE QUESTION NOW

What would you keep, change or measure differently if this leadership reflection were put to work now?

How did you associate DMA at various levels? I have been associated with DMA at various levels. I started as a delegate, started as a participant, then you and the DMA team thought it fit to elevate me to be a jury member and also gave me some opportunities to speak. So I have seen all the phases of association with DMA. I can go on and on, but I think it suffices to say that every time I have participated with DMA, it's taught me something new. Whether it is with interactions with co-panelists, with other participants or through the excellent talks that you guys curate. I think I will be well within reality to say that the topics that you guys bring to the forums, they are actually ahead of the curve.

Actually ahead of the curve, where it's a very great experience to either even listen to what people are saying, because there's something to learn every time. And in case if one is speaking, then there's a lot of preparation that goes in, because of the nature of the topics that you bring in, which makes it a great occasion or a great way to actually spend one time, a once time product. And personally speaking, my association with DMA always has a tinge of a very fond memory. In 2014, we did this campaign for Whisper, for P&G, called Touch the Pickle, right? Which was a very well acclaimed campaign. We did the digital leg of that campaign. And that's the time when I was promoted to an agency head at Group M.

And DMA Echo Gold was my first gold award as an agency head. That was way back in 2014. So it's been seven years since, but I can tell you this with full confidence. I'm never going to forget that I think it was at the Leela. I'm not going to forget that evening when my team and I, we went up the stage and we received that award from the dignitaries on the stage. That's something which will always remain very close and very personal to me.
