Source-backed interpretation.
Editorial interpretation is derived from the original DMAasia/WION video description and transcript. Statements by speakers remain attributed to the source; no unverified current-role or performance claim has been added.
The durable question is how growth should improve relevance without losing sight of purpose.
Source signal, edited only for readability.
Three takeaways worth carrying forward.
- 01
Read growth as the primary operating question in this record.
- 02
Test its connection to purpose and AI against the speaker’s reasoning in the transcript.
- 03
Keep the 2021 source context visible before carrying the lesson into a current decision.
What the transcript puts on the table.
My request, because this is also the start of a new decade, would be for all budding marketeers, CMO minus one, in specific terms, will be part of this journey and part of this community.
There were very siloed communities of consumer marketeers, B2B marketeers, digital marketeers.
It's perhaps one of the few communities in India, especially for marketers, which brings in partners, providers, what we typically call as vendors and users and senior leadership in a very nice, meaningful way, in a very cohesive way.
Original context. Current reading.
Recorded in 2021, this captures the language, platforms and constraints of its time. Read it now by separating those period-specific details from the enduring operating question: how should relevance and AI improve the decision?
Durable tests for the work.
- Start from the customer’s situation, not the channel.
- Use AI to improve a decision or outcome—not to decorate the plan.
What would you keep, change or measure differently if this leadership reflection were put to work now?

DMA has been my platform to learn to get inspired and possibly to contribute to others journey too. What I love about DMA is the close-knit community of marketers, the understated, not the over the top, understated elegance and very strong but very meaningful relationships. It helps nurture between its members in a very easy, non-threatening, non-salesy way. So it's perhaps one of the few communities in India, especially for marketers, which brings in partners, providers, what we typically call as vendors and users and senior leadership in a very nice, meaningful way, in a very cohesive way. One of the best communities that I'm part of in India and before DMA Asia,
there were very siloed communities of consumer marketeers, B2B marketeers, digital marketeers. With DMA Asia, the platform it provides for marketeers of different streams, come together and learn from each other. That's a great place to be. It's been my professional privilege and a personal pleasure to be part of this journey for the last 10 years, almost with DMA Asia. And I look forward to being part of this in the years to come. I have also been awarded as DMA 9th. And I must say, this is amongst the many achievements of my professional career. This would be perhaps one of the top one or two. And the reason is that it's just when the community acknowledges you. And it's a very different feeling.
It's one of the DMA awards, by the way, be it ECHO globally that DMA Asia brings to India, or Best Practices Case Studies, or DMA Night, or the Influencer Awards. The thoroughness of the process behind selection. I must say, this is one of the purest ones amongst all activities in India. What stands out for me is the fact that the members who judge search entries do not wear the professional cap of being associated with a brand. They're very impartial and look at this very objectively. That innocence, that purity, is very unique to DMA recognition and awards in India. I'm pleased to note that DMA Asia is now building its digital outreach, digital presence, slightly more aggressively.
And my request, because this is also the start of a new decade, would be for all budding marketeers, CMO minus one, in specific terms, will be part of this journey and part of this community. It'd be great to swap notes of success, failure, inspiration, opportunities, over the next 10 years with each one of you. Thank you, DMA Asia.
